Doris Abate

It is with heavy hearts that we share the passing of Doris (Kristenson) Abate, 97, of Edison. A beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend passed away peacefully on Saturday, October 10, 2026, at Serenity Hospice of New Jersey, Hamilton Twp., New Jersey.

Born and raised in New Brunswick, she was a long-time resident of the Edison area. She was employed in the Food Service Industry with Stop and Shop Supermarket in Highland Park and was a fixture in the seafood department for many years. An enduring spirit, she will be remembered for her generous heart, and the many ways she made others feel included. She had a great sense of humor and loved spending time with her family, especially during holiday get togethers.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Carl and Anna; sisters, Ann, June, Rosemarie, Alma, Marie and Ruth; her son, Michael; grandson, Joseph; and great grandson, Anthony. She is survived by 4 sons, Sam (Kathy), Donald (Nikki), Tom, Brian (Donna), daughter in-law Jennifer and sister Barbara; 10 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren; as well as many nieces, nephews, dear friends and other relatives.

There will be no calling hours prior to the service.

Services are under the direction of Lighthouse Cremation, Whiting, NJ.

A memorial service celebrating her life prior to internment will be planned for a later date.
