Richard William Axel Walldov, 93, of Jackson, NJ passed the morning of February 14, 2026. Richard was born on September 9, 1932 in South River, NJ to parents Gustav and Sophia Walldov. Richard and his wife, Patricia (Pat), lived in a historic house in Cream Ridge, NJ, a beautiful Victorian home in Ocean Grove, a charming and artistically decorated beach house on Little Gasparilla Island, FL, as well as Rotunda West, FL before settling down for good in Jackson, NJ.
Richard (Rich, Dick, Whitey) served in the U.S. Army before becoming a teacher at Dag Hammarskjold Junior High School in East Brunswick. He was passionate about teaching and coaching soccer and taught math for over thirty-five years before retiring in 1992. He served as Department Head of the Math Department for several years. It was no surprise he worked during the summers at New Jersey racetracks - Monmouth Park and the Meadowlands, because thoroughbred horse racing was in the Walldov blood. He liked to bet, but usually on the jockeys rather than the horse.
Richard loved the simple things in life such as beautifying their homes and antiquing with Pat, spending time with his children, grandchildren, and his beloved dogs. He and Pat enjoyed travelling together across the United States as well as Europe and China.
While living in Cream Ridge, he and Pat took on a huge labor of love renovating their historic 1766 house which included an outhouse, smokehouse, barns, silo, chicken coop, and many animals. Along with his vegetable gardens and raising livestock for personal consumption, he planted and sold Christmas trees during the holiday season.
Rich excelled in every sport he played, often taking pride in the fact that he was the best amongst his age group. In his spare time you could find him on a golf course or improving one of his homes with his amazing carpentry. He loved to read and stayed current on politics. He loved nature and appreciated a great joke. The Giants and the Yankees were his teams! He loved to swim and body surf at the beach. One of his greatest joys was meeting for breakfast or lunch with his daughters, usually opting for a Fiesta Waffle with loads of fruit and whipped cream on top.
MorFar (mother's father in Swedish) adored his grandchildren and while they were young, would host an annual birthday get-together with them including outings to Ringling Brothers and Barnum & Bailey Circus, the rodeo, the race track, horseback riding, a play, amongst others. When the children aged out, he loved writing birthday cards to each of them every year. The love and adoration of his mother should not go unmentioned.
He was a spiritual man and loved God.
Richard is predeceased by his siblings, Alice (Ed) Schauer and Gustav Walldov. He is survived by his wife, Patricia; his daughters, Carol (Larry) Wielgus, Nancy (James) DiGirolamo, and Lisa (Paul) Ahrens; his stepsons Bobby (Madison) Chadwick, and Gary (Jackie) Chadwick, his fifteen grandchildren; and his three great-grandchildren.
He will forever be in our hearts.
